I made some Pride Flag Lipstick designs because it's too damn hard to find them - every year my favorite friends who march under lesser represented flags have to seek them out.

I chose yelling mouths as the symbol because no matter what our gender identity or sexual orientation, we all have mouths to use for screams of queer outrage!

And the lipstick?

Well, because I believe in inclusive femme-inism.

The work below was created in response to the widespread discussion around of racism in the LGBTQIA+ community while I was making work specifically to celebrate visibility of queer women in general - when planning my work (2014-2016),

I found the representation of non-white queer women was severely lacking, so I made a small series of paintings that strive to highlight the beauty of that part of our larger community - this work is currently on hold, because the next phase deals more with models in my community.

But, I will be going in the direction of painting directly from queer femme models

as well as drag artists.

Statement & Introduction

Above you will find some of my current figurative painting and design work, which have all been created between the 2016 Election and now.

The appalling racism and homophobia in our American culture spurred me to create work that reflected the beauty of our diverse American LGBTQ community, with an eye towards expanding queer visibility, and creating images that celebrate queer love and resistance.

My work also speaks to the concept of queer existence as an act of constant protest.

As a resident of Philadelphia, our city and LGBTQIA+ community have been in the spotlight over the past four years, and it's been a call-to-arms for all queer people - making a more inclusive LGBTQIA+ community is all of our responsibilities.

Learn a little more about my background and process here, if you'd like!

My work at large deals with the concepts associated with the ideal feminine,

and the archetypes that women & femmes must acknowledge and subvert to create power for themselves.

I believe in creating a way of consuming images of femininity and queerness that does not force one to exist,

in the moment of viewing,

within the boundaries of a cis-hetero male gaze.

I believe in the concept of a queer femme gaze.

I also believe in queer femme magic, which is why I am working towards creating

a tarot deck with all gender-neutral figures - you can see more about that project here!
